“Martyn Sayer (School House 69-74) and I (Foundation South 68-73) completed a squash marathon in July 1975 at St Bees School some two years after we left. So, our 50th anniversary is this year.
We played for 70 hours 12 minutes on the courts at the school and achieved a world record and got our names in the Guinness Book of Records. We started the marathon at 5pm Wednesday night and finished at 5.12 pm on the Saturday and were allowed 1 minute after every game and 5 minutes every 4 hours for food or toilet break.
We raised £1250 which in those days could have purchased one brand new Mini car! The money raised was split 50/50 with the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Cancer Research.”
